This After the Fall review is based on my own time playing the game on Meta Quest 3.
After the Fall is still a fun and easy VR shooter to jump into. The gunplay feels satisfying, fighting through waves of Snowbreed is enjoyable, and playing with other people gives the game the energy it needs.
The problem is that it now feels old and forgotten. The missions become familiar, the presentation looks dated beside newer Meta Quest games, and it needs meaningful updates to give players a reason to return. I still enjoyed playing it, but in 2026 it feels like a good game that has been left behind.
My Testing Details
Headset tested: Meta Quest 3
Review type: Hands-on gameplay
Completion: Not applicable because After the Fall is built around repeatable missions and progression
I played After the Fall on Meta Quest 3 and based this review on my own experience with its shooting, missions and overall gameplay. Because it is designed around replaying missions and improving your equipment, there is no traditional beginning-to-end completion time.
What Is After the Fall?
After the Fall is a cooperative VR shooter set in a frozen, post-apocalyptic version of Los Angeles. You fight creatures called Snowbreed, complete missions, collect resources and upgrade your weapons as you work through increasingly difficult encounters.
You can play alone with computer-controlled teammates or join other players online. The game is clearly at its best in co-op, where the larger enemy waves and frantic reloads create the kind of chaotic moments that make VR multiplayer fun.
After the Fall Gameplay and Combat
The shooting is still the strongest part of After the Fall. Weapons are easy to use, reloading under pressure feels satisfying, and the larger groups of Snowbreed can quickly turn a simple mission into a frantic fight for survival.
I found the basic combat enjoyable because the game keeps things straightforward. You shoot, reload, collect resources and keep moving. It is not designed as a realistic military simulator, but the faster arcade-style action suits the game well.
Solo Play Versus Co-op
After the Fall can be played alone with computer-controlled teammates, but that is not where the game feels strongest. The artificial teammates help during fights, although the missions become more repetitive when there are no real players creating unpredictable moments.
Playing online gives the game far more energy. Covering another player while they reload, helping someone who has been surrounded, and trying to survive when a mission starts going wrong are the moments that make After the Fall enjoyable.
Why After the Fall Feels Forgotten
The biggest problem is not that After the Fall is a bad game. It is that it now feels like a good VR shooter that has been left behind. The missions start to feel familiar, the presentation looks dated beside newer Meta Quest games, and there is not enough fresh content to make returning feel exciting.
A meaningful update could give the game a second life. New missions, enemies, weapons and stronger reasons to keep progressing would make a big difference. The core gameplay is still enjoyable, but After the Fall needs a proper comeback rather than another small update.
After the Fall Review: Pros and Cons
What I Liked
• Satisfying shooting and manual reloading
• Easy to understand and jump into
• Much more enjoyable when playing online
• Large enemy waves create exciting, chaotic fights
• The core gameplay is still fun despite the game’s age
What I Didn’t Like
• Missions become repetitive
• The presentation now feels dated
• Solo play is less engaging than co-op
• Progression does not feel fresh enough
• It needs meaningful new content and a proper comeback
Final Verdict: Still Fun, But It Needs a Comeback
After the Fall is still an enjoyable VR shooter. The weapons feel satisfying, the Snowbreed fights can become chaotic, and online co-op gives the missions the energy they need. It is simple to understand and easy to jump back into, which remains one of its biggest strengths.
However, the repeated missions, dated presentation and lack of meaningful new content make it feel like a game that has been left behind. The core gameplay is still good, but it no longer feels fresh enough beside newer Meta Quest shooters.
I would still recommend After the Fall to players who enjoy cooperative arcade-style shooting, especially when it is discounted. Existing players need a substantial update with new missions, enemies, weapons and progression before the game can truly make a comeback.
