BattleGroupVR2 Review: It Made Me Feel Like a Star Trek Captain

Updated: 4 days ago
In this BattleGroupVR2 review, I want to start with the thing that surprised me most — it genuinely made me feel like I was standing on the bridge of my own starship.BattleGroupVR2 gave me one of those VR moments where I genuinely felt like I was standing on the bridge of my own starship. Instead of simply flying one ship around space, I was sitting in the captain’s chair making decisions for an entire fleet while the battle unfolded around me.
That is what immediately made me think of Star Trek. You explore the galaxy, mine and trade for resources, build and upgrade your ships, and gradually create a fleet that you then command from the bridge of your flagship.
What makes it interesting in VR is the perspective. You are not watching everything happen from a traditional strategy-game view — you are physically there on the bridge, surrounded by space, issuing orders and watching your fleet carry them out.

BattleGroupVR2 Review: What Is It?
BattleGroupVR2 is a first-person VR space strategy game where you explore the galaxy, gather and trade resources, build and upgrade ships, and gradually create your own fleet.
The big difference is how you command it all. Instead of looking down on the battle from a traditional strategy-game view, you stand on the bridge of your flagship and make decisions while the fight unfolds around you in VR.
Why It Made Me Feel Like a Star Trek Captain
The part that sold BattleGroupVR2 for me was standing on the bridge of my flagship and feeling like I was actually in command. You are not just flying one ship — you are making decisions for the entire fleet while the battle unfolds around you.
That is where the Star Trek feeling really comes from. You are exploring, gathering resources, upgrading your ships, and building a fleet, but when the fighting starts you are still physically there on the bridge watching everything happen around you in VR.
Commanding a Fleet Instead of Just Flying One Ship
What makes BattleGroupVR2 different for me is that you are thinking beyond a single ship. You are building and upgrading a fleet, and making strategic decisions that affect the whole battle.
That makes the combat feel more like being in command than simply piloting around space. Standing on the bridge of your flagship and watching your fleet carry out those decisions is what gives the game its strongest sense of scale and immersion.
Exploration, Resources and Building Your Fleet
BattleGroupVR2 is not just about jumping from one space battle to the next. You explore the galaxy, mine and trade for resources, upgrade your ships and gradually build a stronger fleet around you.
You can also develop and customise the ships under your command, so there is a real sense that your fleet is growing rather than every battle feeling disconnected from the last one.
More Than Just Space Battles
What surprised me is how much there is to do outside the main fleet battles. You can explore the procedurally generated galaxy, mine resources, trade, hunt pirates and gradually build your fleet into something much more powerful.
There is also the Combat Gauntlet if you want a more roguelite-style challenge, while Conquest gives you a persistent multiplayer war. There is a lot going on here, and I really like that BattleGroupVR2 has not been simplified down just because it is a VR game.
What Could Be Better
BattleGroupVR2 does have some rough edges. I noticed a few small bugs and occasional stutters during my time with it, and the tutorial also gave me problems where I had to restart it.
So it is not completely polished yet. But none of that stopped me enjoying the game, and the developer seems very active with the community, which gives me confidence about where BattleGroupVR2 is heading.
What I Liked About BattleGroupVR2
• Commanding battles from the bridge of your flagship feels genuinely immersive
• The open galaxy makes the game feel much bigger than I expected
• You can mine, trade, hunt pirates and build your fleet between battles
• Ship customisation gives you plenty of control over weapons, shields and support systems
• Combat takes place in full 3D space with formations and fleet commands
• Combat Gauntlet and Conquest add even more ways to play
• It feels ambitious rather than simplified for VR
Final Verdict: Is BattleGroupVR2 Worth Playing?
For me, yes. BattleGroupVR2 is exactly the sort of VR game I want to see more of. It is ambitious, it has depth, and most importantly, it makes me feel like I am actually commanding a starship rather than just moving icons around on a flat screen.
I am only around five hours in, and I can already tell this is going to be one of those games I keep coming back to. Even with a few bugs, occasional stutters and the tutorial issues I ran into, none of that has stopped me enjoying it.
If you like space strategy, fleet management and the idea of standing on the bridge of your own flagship while commanding battles around you, I definitely recommend giving BattleGroupVR2 a look.
