This Roboquest VR review is based on my own time playing the game on Meta Quest 3.
Roboquest VR is one of those games that immediately feels made for VR. The movement is fast, the weapons are satisfying, and manually reloading while enemies rush you makes every fight feel active instead of automatic.
What surprised me most was how well it runs as a standalone Quest game. The resolution is not as sharp as PCVR, but the speed, responsiveness and overall quality made me forget I was playing without a gaming PC. It genuinely feels like a full PC-style roguelite shooter running directly on Meta Quest.
My Testing Details
Headset tested: Meta Quest 3
Review type: Hands-on gameplay
Completion: Not applicable because Roboquest VR is built around repeatable roguelite runs and progression
I played Roboquest VR on Meta Quest 3 and based this review on my own experience with its movement, shooting, weapon handling and overall performance. Because each run is designed to be replayed with different weapons, upgrades and challenges, there is no traditional beginning-to-end completion time.
What Is Roboquest VR?
Roboquest VR is a fast-paced roguelite shooter where you fight through groups of robotic enemies, collect different weapons and choose upgrades that change how each run plays. When a run ends, you return stronger and use what you have unlocked to push further the next time.
The VR version turns the original game’s rapid movement and weapon-focused combat into a much more physical experience. You aim, shoot and reload the weapons yourself while constantly moving through colourful environments filled with enemies, projectiles and rewards.
Roboquest VR Gameplay and Gunplay
The shooting is the strongest part of Roboquest VR. The weapons feel responsive, aiming is accurate, and manually reloading during a fast fight adds pressure without making the controls frustrating. Every weapon handles differently enough to make finding new guns feel worthwhile.
The game constantly encourages you to keep moving. Enemies attack from different directions, projectiles fill the area, and standing still quickly puts you in trouble. Once the movement and reloading begin to feel natural, the combat becomes fast, physical and extremely satisfying.
How Well Does Roboquest VR Run on Quest?
This is where Roboquest VR impressed me most. The game moves quickly, there can be several enemies and projectiles on screen at once, and yet the action still feels smooth and responsive on Meta Quest 3. I never felt as though the standalone headset was holding the gameplay back.
The visuals are not as sharp as the PCVR version, but that trade-off makes sense when the game is running directly on the headset. Once a fight begins, the speed, movement and satisfying gunplay matter far more than the lower resolution.
Roguelite Progression Keeps Every Run Interesting
Roboquest VR is designed around repeating runs, but the variety of weapons, upgrades and character builds stops the repetition from becoming boring too quickly. Each run gives you different choices, so you are constantly deciding which weapons and abilities will work best together.
Even when a run ends, it still feels as though you have made progress. Unlocking improvements and learning how different enemies behave gives you a reason to start again, and the fast pace means you can quickly get back into the action.
Roboquest VR Review: Pros and Cons
What I Liked
• Fast, satisfying shooting and movement
• Smooth standalone performance on Meta Quest 3
• Manual reloading makes the combat feel physical
• Plenty of different weapons and upgrades
• Roguelite progression gives you a reason to keep replaying
What Could Be Better
• The standalone visuals are softer than the PCVR version
• Repeating runs will not appeal to every player
• The fast movement can take time to get used to
• Losing a strong run can feel frustrating
• Some weapons feel better to use in VR than others
Final Verdict: It Runs Brilliantly on Quest
Roboquest VR is a fast, satisfying shooter that feels naturally suited to virtual reality. The movement is responsive, the weapons are enjoyable to use, and manually reloading while enemies attack makes every fight feel physical and exciting.
The standalone visuals are softer than PCVR, but that never stopped me from enjoying the game. Its smooth performance, quick action and impressive number of enemies and projectiles make it difficult to believe it is running directly on Meta Quest 3.
Players who enjoy fast shooters and replayable roguelite progression should find plenty to enjoy here. Roboquest VR has no right running this well on Quest, and it is one of the most impressive standalone conversions I have played.
